Duke of Edinburgh AwardDuke of Edinburgh’s Award Young Canadians Challenge

For information check http://www.dukeofed.org/ and speak to Ms. Neilson.

This is a prestigious achievement award that promotes and recognizes self-discipline. Students participate in a balanced program of practical, cultural, and adventurous activities chosen to suit individual interests. Students keep their own records to satisfy requirements of the program, but seek adult guidance from mentors in chosen fields.

Eight students received the bronze level award at the June 8th 2010, school award ceremonies! Presentations were made by Kelowna City Councillor Kevin Craig and Mr. Gary Wilson. Since then, during the summer and fall, three more students have independently qualified for the bronze level award.

S.A.L.T.SStudents can make their own arrangements for Duke of Edinburgh program qualifying journeys, but there are also some opportunities organized by OKM staff members. For example, our Outdoor Education department has a winter campout at Silver Lake in February. This can work for overnight journey at the bronze level or for a practice journey at the silver level. Students can also speak to Mr. Ross about the S.A.L.T.S. sailing trip each March for the silver level. (For more information about S.A.L.T.S. check out the program website HERE)

The Lake O'Hara trip in each student's grade 12 year is also perfect for either silver or gold.

TECH TEAM: Share your tech skills for service to your school, during Enrichment blocks and/or on a volunteer basis from the library media centre.
